Broncos interested in Cowboys DC Dan Quinn, NFL Network says

Quinn was last a head coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020. The Cowboys hired him as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2021.

DALLAS — For the second year in a row, there is reported interest in one of the Dallas Cowboys coordinators as a potential head coach candidate.

The Denver Broncos have asked for permission to speak to Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Quinn was last a head coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020. The Cowboys hired him as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2021, which is the position he’s held ever since.

This is now the second straight year Quinn has garnered the interest of other NFL teams, as multiple teams interviewed Quinn during the past offseason. The Broncos were one of those teams.

During Quinn’s first season in Dallas, the team went 12-5 and won the NFC East. Quinn signed a multi-year extension with the Cowboys on Jan. 28, 2022. One month later, the NFL named Quinn the 2021 AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year.

In 2013, as defensive coordinator for Seattle, Quinn and the Seahawks led the league in the fewest points allowed and went on to win Super Bowl XLVIII against the Broncos.

This season, the Cowboys finished with a 12-5 record. As the fifth seed in the NFC, Dallas will head to Tampa Bay to try for a coveted playoff win. The Bucs beat Dallas in Week 1 of the 2022 season, 19-3, in an ugly performance by the offense on Sunday Night Football. It was also the game where Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a thumb injury, sidelining him for five games.
