Bringing Health Heroes to Work During the Winter Storm

For several days, emergency officials have urged drivers to stay off the roads unless the trip is absolutely necessary.

But essential workers had no choice, especially healthcare workers.

Although many hospitals created space in their premises for staff to sleepmany others have to stay at hotels nearby to get to work.

In Tarrant County, Ed Moore of North Richland Hills and Josh Scroggins of Fort Worth came to the rescue.

They help healthcare heroes work safely during the winter storm.

Every day since the roads got rough, two men drove people from hotels to work at nearby hospitals. There are several trips every day.

Their wives work in healthcare, so they volunteered to walk the icy roads. Moore, a retired firefighter, and Scroggins choose lanes, especially those covered in sand, for short trips.

All of this is being done to ensure that life-saving care in and out of the emergency room continues without a hitch.

“The nurses and other medical staff that I hired were very grateful to me,” Scroggins said. “I would say it’s not for everyone, but I have the ability to do it. Therefore, I always volunteer to help where I can, when the need arises.”

Scroggins said similar efforts have been made during past winter storms and have even taken workers from their homes.

Their dedication is just one of the many good things happening in the Metroplex during this winter storm.
