Brawl at Klein Forest High School raises public concern

According to activists, there were five fights in one school day recently. Klein ISD officials said the activists “behaved for show”.

KLEIN, Texas. Videos posted on social media are causing concern at Klein Forest High School. The video shows boys fighting with boys in the bathroom, and a girl fighting with a girl in a common area.

“This is a system of education and higher education. This is not a fight club,” said community activist Dr. Candace Matthews.

Community activists, including members of the League of United Hispanic Citizens, said they believe the situation in Klein Forest is out of control. On Thursday, they held a press conference outside the school.

“We cannot deny the fact that there are issues that we need to address immediately,” said Dr. Sergio Lira of LULAC.

They believe gang-related divisions between black and Hispanic students were responsible for, among other things, five fights last Friday alone. The county has not confirmed this figure.

“I am afraid and concerned for the safety of the students here at Klein Forest High School,” community leader Quanell X said.

“Providing a safe learning environment is our top priority, and students who violate our Code of Student Conduct are penalized accordingly,” said Justin Albert, Klein ISD Executive Director of Communications. school to cooperate with us instead of flaunting or spreading misinformation.”

Several officers were on campus during the press conference. Activists gave advice to students.

“There’s a better way than to fight and hurt each other,” Quanell X said. “There is a safer way to resolve disagreements and disputes.”

Data provided by TEA does show an uptick in fighting in Klein Forest last school year. But keep in mind, the spike is similar to many other schools and districts.
