Birthday trip ends with two arrests at Florida airport after altercation with Frontier employees

MIAMI – Two women were arrested Tuesday at Miami International Airport after they got into an altercation with a Frontier Airlines employee, authorities said.

News 6 partner WPLG-TV reported that Janaeya Negash, 21, and Makyan Mercer, 20, who celebrated their birthdays on Sunday, were arrested on Tuesday morning.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the women had an argument with a check-in agent at Terminal F just after 9:30 a.m. because they were not allowed to board their flight because they were 45 minutes late and the plane doors were already closed. closed.

Police said the altercation escalated and one of the women threw a plastic sign holder at an airline employee, causing the employee’s face to be cut.

The officer allegedly witnessed the incident and tried to take the woman into custody, but the second woman stood between the officers and her friend, preventing the arrest.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

Negash and Mercer were arrested and taken to the Turner Guildford Knight Correctional Center. Both have since been released from prison.

On Wednesday, Frontier Airlines released the following statement:

“Yesterday at the Frontier checkout at Miami International Airport, two customers went to the counter to check in for their flight after the check-in deadline. They became aggressive, with one of the clients attacking a team member who subsequently required medical attention.

“We give our full support to the injured team member and are appalled by the behavior of the two clients who were eventually arrested. In the future, both will be permanently banned from flying with us.”
