Biden insists anti-gun ban opponents are motivated by money

President Joe Biden shares what he thinks really motivates opponents of the so-called “assault weapons” ban.

Speaking at the National Action Network’s Martin Luther King Day breakfast on Monday, the president raised the issue of gun control policy.

“I’m going to get a ban on assault weapons,” Biden said. “I did it once, I’m going to do it again.”

He continued: “There is no social redemption. Deer don’t wear Kevlar vests. What the hell do you need [assault weapon for]? No, I’m serious. And ban the number of bullets that can fit in a magazine.”

He continued:

“I love it when my right-wing friends talk about how the tree of freedom is watered with the blood of patriots. If you want to challenge the federal government, you need the F-15. You don’t need an AR-15.”

Finally, he urged listeners to “think about the reasons for this.”

“It’s about money,” Biden insisted.

Firearms experts object to the label “assault weapon” or “assault rifle” as they point out that the industry does not actually use the terms to describe the category of weapon.

Biden has previously been criticized for his statements about gun control.

In November, he stated: “The idea that we are still allowing the purchase of semi-automatic weapons is wrong. It just hurts. It has no, no social redemptive values.”

“Zero. Nobody. Not a single, single rationale for this, other than profit for the arms manufacturer,” he added.

The comment drew backlash from critics, who noted that there are semi-automatic firearms such as pistols that are not traditionally considered “assault weapons”.

The White House later clarified that Biden was “talking about assault weapons.”

Biden was also ridiculed last year for claiming that “a 9mm bullet rips a lung out of the body.”
