Bay Shore man sentenced to 13 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Omar Stevenson, 44, was sentenced to 13 years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised rape and sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl.
“This defendant violated the victim’s trust by taking advantage of her innocence,” District Attorney Tierney said. “He will be serving a substantial prison sentence for his actions thanks to the bravery of the victim who told her story.”
According to court documents and confessions from the defendant in his guilty plea, Stevenson attacked the young victim four times between November 2021 and December 2021. The crimes were solved when the victim’s mother saw Stevenson call the victim early in the morning after his last attack. After arguing with Stevenson about why he was calling her daughter, the mother discovered inappropriate text messages between Stevenson and the victim via the child’s social media account. Evidence against Stevenson included matching his DNA to DNA recovered from clothing the victim was wearing during the most recent attack.
On November 22, 2022, Stevenson pleaded guilty before District Court Judge The Honorable Karen M. Vilutis to rape in the first degree, a Class B felony. On March 1, 2023, sentenced to 13 years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised post-release.
In addition, Stevenson was found to be a sex offender. His sex offender risk level will be determined upon his release from prison. Stevenson was represented by Howard Lee, Esq.
The case was filed by Assistant District Attorney Melissa Grier of the Bureau of Child Abuse and Domestic Violence.
