As a result of shooting at the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans, one person was killed and four were injured.

A shooting during the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans killed one person and injured four others, authorities said.

The suspect is also in custody, police said.

Among the victims were a young girl, a woman and three men who were taken to hospital after a shooting on Sunday evening during the Kreve Bacchus parade. Later, the New Orleans Police Department said that one of the injured men was declared dead.

The juvenile is in “stable condition” and at least one of the victims is in critical condition, Deputy Chief Deputy Hans Gantier said during a press conference on Monday morning.

One person was detained at the scene, but Gantier was unsure if anyone else was involved and said an investigation into the shooting was ongoing. Two handguns were also seized at the scene.

“We really didn’t want to see that,” Gantier said. “We really wanted it to be a safe Mardi Gras and we’re continuing to work towards that.”

Superkrewe Bacchus was temporarily stopped at the 1500 block of St. Charles Avenue after the shooting. The officer said the parade would resume to “get out of the way” from the crime scene.
