An ex-Denver Bronco kills a mountain lion “wreaking havoc” in the Colorado area.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has said it’s all legal.

DENVER. This week, a former Denver Broncos player tells a hunting story on the radio. Derek Wolfe also shared a photo on Instagram of a huge mountain lion he says he killed on Tuesday.

Derek Wolfe spent 16 minutes talking about it on Drive with his co-host Darren “DMac” McKee on 104.3 The Fan. Wulf said he loves to hunt deer and elk, but has recently received a license to hunt mountain lions.

“I love to hunt deer and elk, and mountain lions kill deer and elk, and adult male mountain lions kill female mountain lion cubs to force them back into estrus,” Wolfe said on his podcast this week. “I feel like I’m doing my part by taking care of some of these Toms. It is not easy”.

He and his buddy took advantage of the recent snowfall this week to make it easier for them to find animal tracks.

On the podcast, Wolfe said they were hunting a mountain lion near Grant, Colorado off Highway 285, which is near the south end of Guanella Pass. He said the cat was in the tree and he killed it with a bow and arrow.

Wolfe called the trip “predator fighting” on Instagram and said the animal was wreaking havoc in the nearby area.

“He was hiding under this lady’s porch down the road. She told us, “Please get rid of him. He killed my dog last year,” Wolfe shared in Drive.

Wulf said he had to crawl down the mountain with a dead mountain lioness to get to the truck.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) said it was all legal. Wolfe is a licensed hunter in good standing in CPW and he followed the reporting requirements.

Mountain lion hunters must complete a certification course, which is an additional requirement for this animal.

Hunters can take one lion from April 1 to April 30, 2022 OR one lion during the fall season from November 28, 2022 to March 31, 2023, depending on the actual season dates for the unit you are hunting.
