Alief Opens Its New Library With Audio Technology, 3D Printing And Tech Tools
New services are coming to Alief, including a reopened library. Alif-David Henington Regional Library will open on Saturday after its previous library has been closed since October.
Julie Mintzer is Associate Assistant Director of Public Affairs at the Houston Public Library. She said there will be several new features that the community is looking forward to.
“We have this fantastic TechLink tool,” she said. “We have a music studio and a green screen so people who might want to go out and make their own podcast, record music or make videos for TikTok.”
Other services will include 3D printing, passport services and tutoring lessons.
The library, which will be open Monday through Saturday, will be located in the city’s so-called Alief Neighborhood Center, which will also house the Houston Department of Health and Parks. The center will include a WIC office, basketball courts, a walkway, and pickleball courts.
Brent Taylor is the mayor’s deputy press secretary. He said that the Neighborhood Center had been in the making for 20 years.
“Right now, this space has been talked about for literally decades,” Taylor said. “And with the Houston Department of Health facilities, the idea of having a single space accessible to all Alif residents was a natural inclusion.”
