Abbott releases disaster statement during winter storm in Denton County, other counties

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued distress announcement for seven counties, including Denton County, after winter storm resulting in property damage, travel disruptions and power outages.

“The State of Texas has provided all assistance requested during this week’s severe weather, and we continue to ensure communities in our state have the resources and support they need to recover from the winter weather event,” Abbott said in a statement.

Governor Abbott is asking Texans affected in these counties to report storm damage to homes and businesses using the Texas Individual Assessment Tool. The damage overview is available in English and Spanish online at damage.tdem.texas.gov and clicking “Ice Storm/Winter Weather Jan 29 – Ongoing”. The details provided in the polls will help officials determine if a state meets federal requirements for additional assistance. This is not a substitute for reporting damages through insurance.

“With this disaster announcement, we will be able to provide additional assistance to Texas residents and communities affected by property damage and local power outages due to the ice storm,” Abbott added. we can meet all needs in the recovery process.”
