A woman was filmed kicking a husky in a house in north Houston

Harris County Precinct 1 issued a warrant that allowed the Houston Humane Society (SPCA) to immediately rescue a dog that veterinarians said was malnourished and underweight.

HOUSTON. A two-year-old Siberian Husky mix was rescued by the Houston Humane Society on Monday after a video showed a woman kicking and punching the dog in north Houston.

A video released by Houston SPCA shows a woman kicking and hitting her dog several times in the driveway to her home on Bumwood Road near Bamwick Drive. She then picks up the dog and walks to the driveway as if she’s holding it by the ear.

A small child was also seen in the video, and the animal welfare organization said the child was upset and begged the woman to stop hitting the dog.

“It was a terrible situation,” said Julie Kuenstle of the SPCA. “It’s very hard to watch, especially when there is a child around.”

Harris County Precinct 1 served a warrant that allowed the Houston Humane Society to rescue the dog immediately. The vet examined the dog and said he was 20 pounds too small but a very sweet dog.

“For the most part, I would say that this husky was very lucky to have been rescued and to be in the situation he is in right now,” Kuenstle said.

The woman is under investigation and could face up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine for animal cruelty.

Houston SPCA Animal Cruelty Team

The Humane Society of Houston’s 10-member Animal Cruelty Investigation Team is working very closely with local law enforcement in and around the Greater Houston area to end animal cruelty. The team consists of the Harris County 1st Precinct, the Houston Police Department, and nine other nearby Texas counties.

If you can do it safely, recording a video of animal abuse will help investigators get the evidence they need so they can remove the animal.

You can report animal cruelty anonymously by calling 713-869-7722 or online.
