A woman has died in an accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Brazoria County, the sheriff said.

Sheriff Beau Stallman said the driver of a black Chevy pickup truck was arrested and charged with assault while intoxicated.

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas. A 19-year-old woman died in the crash early Sunday morning, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened shortly before 4:30 am on State Highway 288 and FM 1462, near Rosharon.

In a sheriff’s office report, the accident was reported by an OnStar call center after the airbags deployed. When they arrived, investigators determined that a black Chevy pickup truck heading south on 288 had crashed into the shoulder of a white GMC pickup.

A 19-year-old woman named Jennifer Gonzalez from Clute, Texas, was a passenger in a black truck. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the black truck, 21-year-old Rodrigo Santa Cruz, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to Sheriff Bo Stallman, he was arrested and charged with assault while intoxicated. The driver of the white GMC was not injured.

Stallman said the accident is still under investigation.
