A woman has died in a two-car accident in Watsonville.

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) — CHP Santa Cruz announced that a 26-year-old Watsonville woman has died in a two-vehicle collision at Holohan and Grimmer Road.

Officers said the accident happened at 10:22 p.m. on Saturday evening. A 2007 Volvo XC90 was driving south on Holohan Road and approaching Grimmer Road at an undetermined speed. At the same time, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra was heading north on Holohan Road and approaching the Volvo.

For an unknown reason, 38-year-old Angelique Varon of Watsonville, who was driving a Volvo, crossed solid double lines and collided head-on with a Hyundai.

Hyundai driver Breanna Romero, 26, died at the scene. A Hyundai passenger, 25-year-old Kianna Hughes from the Moreno Valley, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Natividad Hospital.

Varon was arrested on charges of drunk driving and was also taken to Natividad Hospital due to her serious injuries.

Volvo passenger Jesús Rocha Ayala, 25, from Watsonville, rushed himself to Watsonville Community Hospital to receive treatment for his serious injuries.

CHP says the role of alcohol and drugs is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash.
