A man pleaded guilty to shooting an 11-year-old girl while driving through Grand Parkway.

Max Meyers was sentenced to eight years in prison, a sentence that the victim and her family are pleased with.

HOUSTON. On Wednesday, a Harris County man pleaded guilty to the 2021 shooting of an 11-year-old girl while she was driving down Grand Parkway.

Juliet Davis, now 13, and her family have appeared in court for sentencing in the case. This young rodeo barrel racer was nervous in the face of the man who would change her life forever.

“For the past 23 months, I have been waiting for this moment to see him and tell him my heart,” said Rachel Davis, Juliet’s mom.

On March 26, 2021, investigators stated that Max Meyers fired his pistol from a moving truck as it entered Grand Parkway near Highway 249. One of those shots hit Juliet as they were driving home from a school dance. Soon she couldn’t feel her legs

“It was terrible. I was there. There were many prayers and hopes for the hospital,” said Jake Davis, Juliet’s father.

Her family says she has had four surgeries and a long road of recovery, not knowing if she will walk or even ride a horse again.

“She did physical therapy for 12 months just to learn how to walk,” Rachel said.

But during treatment and recovery, Juliet’s family found out that Meyers had contacted her and was arrested for boating while intoxicated.

“Knowing that he was given a chance to get out of prison and use it to potentially harm someone else was very difficult,” Rachel said.

On Wednesday, Meyers pleaded guilty to the shooting. Juliet’s family finally had a chance to talk to him face to face, and her mother read the letter to him.

“I was encouraged that he shows remorse,” she said. “There was remorse on his face when I read these things to him.”

The judge sentenced Meyers to eight years in prison. This is a decision that Juliet and her family are happy with.

“We sincerely forgive him and wish him all the best,” Rachel said. We really want Max to be rehabilitated. But we also know that we serve a God who is just, and we are very grateful for justice today.”

The Meyers family did ask Juliet’s family for forgiveness, and they say they continue to pray for Juliet’s health.
