A man has been sentenced to life in prison for severely injuring a girlfriend in a 2021 ax attack, according to the Collin County District Attorney.

Plano police said that Gregory Reed and the victim were found at a nearby hospital after the attack and said the victim suffered serious injuries to his hand and arm.

COLLIN COUNTY, Texas. A Plano man will spend the rest of his life in prison after attacking and seriously injuring a girl with an ax in 2021, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said.

Gregory Reid, 57, was sentenced to life in prison for aggravated first-degree assault with a deadly weapon that caused serious bodily harm to a family member.

On June 9, 2021, Plano police officers were called to the Buckle Lane house in connection with the attack. When the officers arrived, family members said that they believed Reed used an ax to attack his girlfriend and left the house with her.

Officers said they saw clear signs of injury, including a lot of blood and an axe.

Plano police said Reed and the victim were at a nearby hospital and said the victim had serious injuries to her hand and forearm.

When the police managed to separate her from Reed, she told the police that she was sleeping when Reed woke her up holding an ax and swung at her.

The victim said she had to use her hands and arms to protect herself, and Reid eventually stopped attacking her as she begged for her life.

According to the police, the victim had to undergo several operations, as a result of which he was permanently disfigured.

The victim, who has not been identified, appeared before Reid in court during the trial.

“This brave woman survived a deadly attack while fighting for her life against an axe-wielding rapist who left her with indelible scars. She then plucked up the courage to stand before him in court. In turn, this violent hardened criminal deserved nothing less than the maximum sentence,” District Attorney Willis said after Reid’s sentencing.

Collin County Judge Benjamin Smith presided over the case, found Reed guilty and sentenced him to life in prison. Reid had previously been sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and 19 years for domestic violence, officials said.
