A Boeing employee bought a lottery ticket because it was worth $747 million, a tribute to the aircraft. She won the jackpot.

An Auburn resident and Boeing employee won the record-breaking Powerball jackpot on February 6th.

The woman has worked as a supply chain analyst at Boeing for almost 36 years. It was because of this that she even decided to buy a lottery ticket.

On February 5, she was at Auburn Fred Meyer with her daughter to shop for groceries when she saw a sign on a lottery vending machine showing an estimated $747 million jackpot. She also realized that Boeing had delivered its last 747 large jet just this week.

“That’s when it dawned on me… I had to buy another ticket,” she said.

The woman ended up winning a $754.6 million jackpot. It was the ninth largest Powerball win in US history.

She demanded her “big check” and ate a birthday cake with reference to 747.

The Fred Meyer store, which sold a $754 million winning jackpot ticket, has announced that it will be giving away its $50,000 bonus to the Auburn Food Bank. According to a press release, the donation will provide around 66,000 meals.

Kroger, who owns Fred Meyer, also gave the store $10,000 to host their own party with their employees.

The February 6th win was the first Powerball jackpot win since November 19th. This no-win streak allowed the prize to rise further and further until it became the ninth largest in US history.

This is the second time that a winning Powerball ticket has been won in Washington, which was also bought in the Auburn back in 2014. A $1 million Powerball ticket was purchased near Spokane in November 2022 but has yet to be claimed.
