Debate about illegal wear swirls after three people, including a TV reporter and a child, are killed near Orlando.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida. After a TV reporter, a 9-year-old and a 38-year-old woman, were killed outside Orlando on Wednesday, Washington, DC, and some at the State Capitol, have again become frustrated. The Republican Party-controlled Legislature is moving closer to passing a gun ban this year.

The policy allows legitimate gun owners to discreetly carry guns without state-required authorization or training.

Democrats, including the Biden administration, condemned the idea. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called Florida’s gun ban law “the opposite of good gun safety common sense” on Thursday afternoon.

“The people of Florida who have paid a heavy price for state and congressional inaction on guns, from Parkland to the Pulse nightclub to the Pine Hills, deserve better,” Jean-Pierre said.

Fellow Democrats in Tallahassee echoed the spokesman’s concerns. State Rep. Anna Escamani, D-Orlando, recently attempted to amend the unauthorized carry bill by adding a community violence task force. He failed on the party line.

“The news reporter who was killed just doing his job – he was a young man with a future ahead of him,” she said. “Now he won’t be able to live anymore because we don’t do anything with guns.”

From the start, Florida Republicans have argued that their measure would improve security. They believe the bill will ensure that it will be easier for gun owners to protect themselves by revoking “government permission”.

Senator Jay Collins, R-Tampa is among them. He offered his condolences to the victims of the recent violence, but said the shooting didn’t make him think.

“No,” said Collins. “The fact is that criminals do not follow the laws. Depriving law-abiding citizens of the ability to defend themselves does not prevent criminals from breaking the law.”

Despite the ongoing criticism, the Florida Republican Party’s vast majority is expected to quickly draft the Unauthorized Carry Bill when they return to regular session on March 7. Gov. Ron DeSantis promised to sign it before leaving office.

Although DeSantis did not address the prohibited carry law, his office issued a statement to Spectrum News 13 following the loss of their employee:

“Susan, reporters and employees of News13,

“We would like to express our sincere condolences and prayers to all of you in connection with the murder of your colleague Dylan Lyons. There are no words to express the pain and indignation that we and all the good-hearted people of Florida feel at this senseless murder of a young man living his dream. We too want this killer to be brought to justice quickly and that we know that the Lyons family and all of you at News13 and the greater Orlando community are in our thoughts and prayers.”
