MELBOURNE, Florida. “Rhythm will appeal to Central Florida theatergoers when On Your Feet! Conga “The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan” in local halls.
Ensemble member Miguel Flores and the rest of the cast are excited to present the show at various Central Florida performing arts centers throughout March, especially in Gloria’s home state of Estefan.
“I think it goes beyond a musical musical,” said Flores, one of the actors traveling to Melbourne, Daytona Beach and The Villages. “It’s great when people know the history behind the music and can know how long it took (Emilio and Gloria Estefan) to get to where they are now.”
He said that the story behind the music is as important as the music itself. When Latin pop stars were emerging, the intersection of English and Spanish songs and artists was not as common as it is today.
“A lot of people didn’t know this part of their history,” Flores said. “So it’s good for them to see and see and meet all the characters. Like her mother, her sister, the people who were with her.”

It’s a journey that he can also relate to as an artist born in Puerto Rico.
“Coming from Puerto Rico… to the US and being able to be in musical theater and share our stories from us… I think it’s a great experience and a great opportunity to show that we’re all human. beings going through the same hardships, and we can all overcome them if, you know, we focus on what we want and the goals that we have,” he said.
Growing up on the island, he remembers listening to Emilio and Gloria Estefan.
“I knew about her story, I knew about their music, and it’s quite fun for me to be able to perform on stage, performing songs that I sang at home or, for example, during car trips or a birthday party. Flores said.
He said that this is something he shares with the rest of the cast, who all hail from different parts of Latin America such as Argentina, Chile and Cuba.
“So getting everyone together to this music that we all grew up listening to in different countries is an amazing experience and it’s fun,” Flores said. “We just have an explosion on stage. And I think it gets broadcast and the audience becomes part of the show.”
