DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) – Three people were charged in connection with the sale of drugs laced with fentanyl to teenagers at the ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch, resulting in the poisoning of nine people and the death of three.

Luis Eduardo Navarrete, Magali Mejia Cano and Jason Xavier Villanueva were indicted in federal court on February 22.

Navarrete, Cano and Villanueva were charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. In addition to this charge, Villanueva was charged with possession of a firearm for the purpose of committing a drug trafficking offense.

In accordance with newly printed court documentsFederal investigators began monitoring Navarrete and Cano’s home near R. L. Turner High School in early January.

Villanueva was arrested on February 14 and appeared in court the next day. Navarrete and Cano were arrested on 15 February.

Investigators said they were selling counterfeit OxyContin and Percocet laced with fentanyl, using at least eight students aged 14 to 16 to distribute drugs to other students.

The trial in this case will begin on May 1.
