2 brothers hospitalized in southwest Miami-Dade after multiple shots

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FL. (WSVN) — Police are investigating after two teenagers were shot and killed in the West Perrine neighborhood in southwest Miami-Dade.

Around 9:00 p.m., Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade fire and rescue units arrived at the scene in the 1700 block of Homestead Avenue, where they found two victims shot to death.

Officials said the ShotSpotter Alert notified authorities of several dozen shots fired in the area.

Police said the victims were brothers; 16 year old and 19 year old.

The 19-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital and was seen fully conscious as he lay down on a stretcher and talked on the phone.

His brother refused treatment and refused to cooperate with the police because he had been in trouble with the law in the past.

“A 16-year-old has two outstanding warrants,” Miami-Dade Police Department detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. “One of them is for beating with a firearm, and the second is for possession of a firearm by a minor. As soon as he is released from medical care in the hospital, he will be taken into custody on the basis of two outstanding warrants.

While the investigation to find the shooter continues, the police are asking for help from the public.
