Wounded Collier County Warriors Reopen Makeshift Alpha House

COLLIER COUNTY, Florida. On Monday afternoon, wounded Collier County warriors reopened one of their makeshift homes, Alpha House, after it was completely destroyed by Hurricane Ian.

At the time, the current residents of the house had to be immediately evacuated and relocated until the house was livable again.

It was then that Scott Williams, a former resident of Alpha House, said it was not difficult to put a roof over the heads of men and women moving to a new level, since he was once in their place.

“People are happy to be a part of it, because what could be better in life than helping someone else,” Williams graciously said.

Williams, who now has his own maintenance business, says he and five others came together and worked hard to return the home to its full glory after it suffered a five-foot storm surge and major damage.

“We all wanted to be here, no one looked at the clock, trying to figure out when they could come home. They helped me, so I should be able to reach out and give an answer,” Williams said.

Dale Mullin of the Wounded Warriors of Collier County says the organization and veterans are grateful to Willams and his team for rebuilding the home so quickly. But not only the organization is grateful for the generosity of donors, veterans are grateful to the community.

“They see an outpouring of community, that people care and that people don’t just kick them to the curb,” Mullin said.

Mullins, referring to Williams as the Knight in Shining Armor, says that House Alpha and others like it represent help and hope.

“Being here is a Blessing, I wouldn’t be here if God wasn’t at the center of it all. What else in life could be better than helping someone else and just everyone, you know, if there is a group of veterans and people who have the courage to help other people,” Williams said.
