Woman arrested 4+ years after fatal FedEx truck crash on Florida Turnpike

An Orange County woman has been arrested more than four years after her involvement in a fatal crash along the Florida Turnpike, according to court documents. Yetzareny Rodriguez, 29, now faces a charge of vehicular homicide. The tragic incident took place in April 2019, when a FedEx semitrailer and Jeep SUV collided on the turnpike near the Orange-Osceola county line, resulting in the death of Joseph Ledesma, 29, who was a passenger in the Jeep.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that at the time of the crash, Rodriguez was driving the Jeep with five passengers, including Ledesma. Investigating officers uncovered that Rodriguez had passed another tractor-trailer on the highway and attempted to merge into the right lane without using a turn signal. Meanwhile, the semitrailer had activated its signal to change lanes to the right. Unfortunately, as the semitrailer swiftly moved back into the left lane after crossing the painted lines on the roadway, the Jeep began to swerve multiple times, resulting in a collision with the semitrailer, as per the investigative report.

The force of the impact caused the Jeep to veer off the roadway and overturn into a nearby ditch. Tragically, several passengers inside the Jeep were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Rodriguez and four others were rushed to the hospital with injuries sustained from the accident. Regrettably, Ledesma did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initially, following a yearlong investigation, authorities issued Rodriguez a traffic citation for improper lane change and imposed a fine of $533, the report details. However, in September 2020, a detective reassigned to the case made a significant discovery. It was revealed that Rodriguez had been intoxicated at the time of the accident, shedding new light on the tragic events that unfolded that fateful day.

As a result of this revelation, Rodriguez has now been taken into custody, facing the charge of vehicular homicide. The circumstances surrounding the crash and Rodriguez’s impaired state have raised further questions and concerns. The investigation into the incident will continue, as authorities strive to ensure justice is served for Joseph Ledesma and his grieving loved ones.

In conclusion, the recent arrest of Yetzareny Rodriguez serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from impaired driving. It highlights the importance of responsible and vigilant behavior on the roads to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring. The legal process will now unfold as the case makes its way through the judicial system, guided by the pursuit of justice for the victims affected by this horrific crash.
