Woman allegedly lied about two sexual harassments at Stanford

The Santa Clara County District Attorney said Wednesday that a 25-year-old Stanford employee has been charged with lying about being raped twice on campus last year, apparently in an attempt to assault a colleague.

Jennifer Grice of Santa Clara allegedly fabricated two attacks she reported in August and October, each time describing the assailant as a black male in his 20s, prosecutors said.

She also told a friend that her assailant was a colleague who raped her, that she became pregnant with his twins, and that she had a miscarriage, according to district attorneys.

Prosecutors said that Grice was not pregnant at the time and that evidence shows that she allegedly orchestrated the attacks because she was angry at a colleague who matched the description of the alleged rapist.

“This is a rare and deeply damaging crime,” said Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen. “Our hearts sympathize with the falsely accused. Our hearts go out to the students who had to look back on their way to class. Our hearts go out to legitimate victims of sexual assault who are wondering if they will be believed.”

Grice was taken into custody on Wednesday morning on suspicion of perjury and other charges. She was set a bond of $25,000.

The first alleged rape was reported on August 9, 2022, when Grice went to the Valley Medical Center for a sexual assault forensic examination. At the time, she did not want law enforcement to contact her, but signed a consent form confirming that the nurse should notify law enforcement, prosecutors said.

Gris allegedly told the nurse that she was raped by a man she didn’t know in the restroom of the Munger dorm, which connects to Wilbur’s garage. The assailant was described as a black man in his 20s, and she allegedly said he approached her as she was walking to her car, grabbed her, told her not to scream, and raped her.

The second attack came to light on October 7, when Grice went to Stanford Hospital for another examination for rape. She allegedly told this nurse that she was returning from lunch to the waiting room when an unfamiliar man grabbed her by the arm, took her to the basement closet and raped her. She allegedly said the assailant was a black man in his 20s, slim, and about 6 feet tall. She signed the consent form again, acknowledging that the nurse was a certified reporter.

Prosecutors said both sets for Grice’s sexual assault examination were given priority because of the potential sex offender’s public safety risk. According to prosecutors, the results of laboratory tests did not match her story.

The Stanford Department of Public Safety continued to investigate the alleged attacks and found that Grice had recently filed a sexual harassment complaint against a colleague who matched the description of the alleged rapist.

It also turned out that she allegedly told a friend that she was in a relationship with a man, and called his name.

Grice was interviewed by District Attorney Sheena Woodland on Jan. 24, when she wrote a letter of apology to a colleague, according to the District Attorney’s office.
