Woman accused of killing and burning North Texas teenager 10 years ago extradited from Mexico and jailed

Jennifer Puente was captured in Mexico in October 2022 in the murder of 15-year-old Moria Gonzalez in Ennis, Texas.

A suspect accused of killing and burning a teenage girl 10 years ago is now in a North Texas prison after being captured in Mexico, according to prison records.

Jennifer Puente, 29, was jailed in Ennis, Texas after she was taken into custody by Mexican authorities in October 2022. old Moria Gonzalez in March 2012.

Prison records show that Puente, a resident of Ennis, was arrested on February 10, 2023.

Puente has been on the run since an incident in March 2012 in which she allegedly stabbed and killed Gonzalez. At the time of the incident, Puente was 18 years old.

Authorities said she allegedly dumped and burned Gonzalez’s body on the side of the road with the help of 40-year-old Joe Alvarado.

Alvarado has already been convicted of Gonzalez’s murder and is serving a 34-year sentence for the murder and another 20 years for tampering with evidence.

In October 2022, Mexican authorities notified the Texas Department of Public Safety that Puente was in custody. After her identity was confirmed, the 29-year-old was extradited to the United States.

Following the news of Puente’s capture, members of the Gonzalez family told the WFAA in October 2022 that they were thrilled.

“It just hit us all at once,” said Danielle Gonzalez, Sister Moria. “We knew this day would come, but we didn’t know when.”

“We just left it to God because we didn’t know what to do,” she added. “…We didn’t expect something like this out of the blue. It’s almost disbelief that it took so long.”

What’s happened

Moria Gonzalez was killed on March 17, 2012. Authorities said she, Alvarado, and Puente hung out at Alvarado’s mother’s house.

Puente was Alvarado’s ex-girlfriend.

Alvarado claimed Puente was under the influence of drugs at the time and playfully threatened González with a knife before allegedly stabbing her.

Alvarado testified that he agreed to dump and burn Gonzalez’s body along with Puente along Nighthurst Drive in Ennis.

After the discovery of Gonzalez’s body and the start of an investigation, authorities said they discovered that her last contact was with Puente, leading to a search.

The authorities received information that Puente and Alvarado were at the Grand Prairie Hotel. Alvarado was captured and Puente escaped.
