Woman, 74, found dead in New York home with hands and feet tied: police

A death on the Upper West Side left more questions than answers after a 74-year-old woman was found bound and unconscious in her apartment this week.

Authorities say the woman was found late Wednesday at her West 83rd Street apartment with her hands and feet tied, but they said she had “no other obvious signs of injury.” A forensic medical examination will determine the cause of her death.

Police and an ambulance service arrived at the woman’s apartment – she has since been identified as Maria Hernandez – around 10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call, the NYPD said. The latter pronounced her dead at the scene.

The death of the 74-year-old woman has since been ruled a homicide, but officials have released no further details related to her death, and no descriptions of the suspects have been released to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
