Winter Springs Discusses Recruitment for City Manager

WINTER SPRINGS, Florida. – The city of Winter Springs has several openings, including one for a city manager after the previous manager announced his departure in February.

On Monday evening, the city commission briefly discussed how to hire a qualified person to fill the position.

The commissioners considered a national search, but still wanted to make the option available to people living in Florida or Winter Springs.

The commission planned to hire a consultant to manage the recruitment process.

The commissioners said hundreds of people applied for the position last time, although not many of them were suitable for the job.

The city has lost other key officials, such as the director of public works, so several vacancies need to be filled.

“We have had such a struggle with finding qualified people who are willing to come in and fill these very important positions,” Commissioner Ted Johnson said.

The search for a new city manager comes as the city is still undergoing a state review after residents complained of mismanagement.
