Williamson Co. Symphony Orchestra’s May Concert Series Goes Alfresco
The highly anticipated concert on Friday, May 19th, will now take place at the newly opened Lakeline Park in south Cedar Park, just off of US 183. Those planning to attend are instructed to turn west on Little Elm Trail before making the third left into the park.
The Saturday evening concert on May 20th, however, will still be held at the Lakeview Pavilion located in Old Settlers Park situated in Round Rock. Joshua Thompson, renowned Director of the Westwood High School Orchestra, has been granted the pleasure of conducting the Orchestra for the May concert series, having already directed the orchestra in March of 2022.
The Orchestra, directed by Joshua Thompson, will be putting on a thrilling performance entitled “Orchestral Fireworks”. Starting with European works dating back to the mid-1800s, the first half features a wide variety of enchanting classics. Pomp & Circumstances #4 by Elgar, which was played during the coronation of King Charles, is one of the pieces that will be showcased. The second half of the concert features works by American composers ranging from the 1940s to the 1980s.
Among the performances, Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries”, Elgar’s “Pomp & Circumstances #4”, Listz’s “Les Preludes”, and Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” arranged and conducted by Dr. M L Daniels will be on display. The second half will consist of John William’s “1984 Olympic Fanfare & March”, Leroy Anderson’s “Blue Tango”, Aaron Copland’s “Hoe-Down” from “Rodeo”, and John William’s “Superman March”.
The event will be a free concert, open to the public. Attendees are sure to be captivated by the stunning performances by the Orchestra. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 20th, at Old Settlers Park – Lakeview Pavilion, located at 1001 Harrell Parkway, Round Rock.
