Wife of slain NYPD cop Jason Rivera says she’s pregnant with his ‘wonderful’ child

The wife of a police officer shot dead in the line of duty said on Saturday he will leave behind a “miracle” as she is pregnant by him.

“One of the things I learn is that God works in a mysterious way,” Dominique Luzuriaga Rivera said at a memorial service marking the anniversary of the deaths of her husband Jason Rivera and her fellow officer Wilbert Mora.

“Despite the sorrow and pain, there may be rebirth. I’m happy to announce that Jason and I will be waiting for our miracle this spring.”

The news was met with cheers and applause in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which brought some joy to this solemn event.

“While Jason will not be here physically to see and experience our miracle, I know he will always be here in spirit, watching, protecting and loving us,” she added.

“For my future child, I hope that with time, guidance and love, they too will get to know their father, and as a family” we “never forget Jason’s great legacy of success and ultimate sacrifice.”

"Despite the sadness and pain, there may be rebirth. I am happy to announce that this spring Jason and I will be waiting for our miracle," said Dominique Luzuriaga Rivera, wife of Jason Rivera.

Sources said Luzuriaga Rivera followed the lead of Sunny Liu, who gave birth to daughter Angelina in 2017 via artificial insemination two and a half years after her husband, NYPD cop Wenjian Liu, was killed.

Earlier, Mayor Adams paid tribute to two young police officers killed in response to a domestic violence call in Harlem.

“We are honoring two good people, the heroes of our city,” Adams said.

Rivera, 22, and Mora, 27, were fatally shot when a gunman ambushed them during a home conversation in a Harlem apartment on January 21, 2022. Rivera died the same day, and Mora succumbed to his wounds four days after the shooting. Both posthumously received the title of detective.

The mayor also spoke of the love he feels for his 27-year-old son Jordan Coleman, telling the family of the deceased cop, “I can’t imagine the pain of losing these two men.”

“Our hearts mourn with you, and 365 days do not allow us to see how the pain subsides,” he added. “We can’t take this pain, we’re here for you.”

The mass was also attended by many NYPD leaders, including Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

Adams had been on the job for less than a month when both officers were killed last year, and at the time used the horrific shooting as an example of why his plan to crack down on illegal gun dealing is so necessary in the Big Apple.
