The Texans have asked permission to speak to several well-known candidates and have already conducted several interviews.

HOUSTON – Houston Texans are looking for their fourth head coach in three years after Lovie Smith was fired after the regular season finale.

General manager Nick Caserio will hire a second team coach two years after hiring David Calley in his first year and then promoting Smith.

Who did the Texans interview for the head coach position?

Houston announced that he had interviewed Evero. on Tuesday, January 17th.

Evero began his coaching career at UC Davis in 2005. After a brief stint in the NFL, he returned to the college ranks for two years before returning to the NFL in 2011. He spent five years with the 49ers, one year with the Packers, five years with the Rams, and last season with the Broncos.

The Texans announced that they interviewed Brown on January 17th.

Brown has risen through the ranks, starting in 2011 in Georgia and working his way through several colleges before his first NFL appearance in Los Angeles in 2020.

Gannon helps the Eagles prepare for the NFL Divisional Playoffs after saying goodbye in the first round as the top seed in the NFC. Gannon was hired during the 2021 off-season and this is his second year at defense.

Gannon’s division finished 2nd overall in the regular season, narrowly missing out on the top spot held by the San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles averaged 301.5 yards per game and the Niners averaged 300.6 yards.

The Eagles finished 7th in defensive scoring and 5th in rushing.

Prior to joining the Eagles, Gannon served as the defensive end coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2020.

The second candidate for interviews with the Texans was Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.

The Texans announced on January 13 that they completed interview with Steichenwho, like Gannon, helps the Eagles prepare for the NFC Divisional Playoffs.

He is also in his second season as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator. He joined the team in 2021. In the 2022 regular season, he led the Philadelphia offense to second in scoring with 59 touchdowns.

The Eagles finished 6th in passing rushing and tied for fifth in rushing yards on the team with 2,509 ground yards.

Of course, Steichen played an integral role in the development of quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts finished the regular season with a QB rating of 101.5 and 3,701 passing yards with 22 touchdowns. He also had another 760 yards on the ground with 13 more TDs.

Before joining the Eagles, Steichen spent the previous seven seasons with the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers.

The first candidate the Texans interviewed for the vacancy was Ben Johnson, who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

The Texans announced on January 12 that they had completed their interview with Johnson. According to CBSSports.com insider Jonathan Jones, the offensive coach is also up for the Carolina Panthers head coaching job.

According to his profile on the Lions website, Johnson was named offensive coordinator in 2022, having spent three seasons with the Lions in multiple positions on the coaching staff. He came to Detroit in 2019 as an offensive quality control coach and was heavily involved in the passing game during Lions head coach Dan Campbell’s first season in Detroit.

Johnson led the Lions to third in offensive scoring, with 54 touchdowns just behind the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

Under Johnson, the Lions had the fifth-highest-rated passing offense in the NFL. His offense also finished 11th in yards with 2,179 yards.

Prior to joining the Lions, Johnson worked as a receiving coach for the Miami Dolphins. He worked for them as an assistant from 2012 to 2019.

Johnson joined the Dolphins after spending three years at Boston College.

Here and there, he spent one season as a tight ends coach and two seasons as a graduate assistant.

He played four seasons as a quarterback for North Carolina and graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Johnson and his wife Jessica have a daughter, Emory, and a son, Kennedy.

On January 11, the Texans requested permission from the New Orleans Saints to talk to Sean Peytonaccording to an insider Peter Schrager. He gave the official interview on Monday night when the team made the official announcement on social media.

The Super Bowl-winning coach has not been in the NFL since retiring in 2021. Many see Payton as the most sought-after head coach candidate this cycle.
