Whistleblower Accuses Bank of America of Giving FBI Private Client Information to Fight Gun Buyers

The whistleblower testified in a closed-door interview with the House Judiciary Committee in February that a major financial institution improperly extracted data from its customers’ banking information to assist the FBI in its investigation of the January 6 riots.

Retired FBI national security intelligence chief George Hill, who worked in the Boston field office in 2021, said Bank of America provided the FBI with a list of all customers who transacted in or near D.C. on January 5-7, 2021. Hill’s transcript reviewed by Breitbart News.

Hill stated, among several statements in his hours-long interview, that Bank of America “didn’t have a directive from the FBI” to make the list and that he also prioritized at the top of the list “anyone who bought a firearm.” [anywhere] any date” using a Bank of America product, such as a debit or credit card.

Hill’s testimony comes against the backdrop of the federal government’s Special Arms Subcommittee investigating numerous allegations of civil liberties violations by the executive branch.

Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said that since Biden took office, he has received “dozens” of complaints from FBI whistleblowers that could relate to the subcommittee’s work.

Jordan and Democrats on the Judiciary Committee, which houses the armaments subcommittee, interviewed three such whistleblowers this year, including Hill.

In continuation of these interviews, the chairman asked on Friday that FBI Director Christopher Wray arrange for 16 FBI officers to testify in interviews with the committee.

Democrats ridiculing witnesses as “so-called” whistleblowers released a report last week that focused on the credibility of three witnesses. They charged Hill specifically with making false statements about Bank of America.

“He was unaware of the true origins of this alleged evidence, never used the evidence himself, and never looked at the actual document containing the information,” the Democrats said, adding that Hill was involved in “less than a dozen” cases involving prior to Jan. 6.

Democrats said they therefore cannot “reasonably believe this evidence is credible.”

“In any case, that a major financial institution could provide evidence to the FBI after the attack on the Capitol is hardly newsworthy and certainly does not indicate FBI misconduct,” they argued.

Hill made it clear in his testimony, according to the transcript, that he did not physically see the Bank of America listing, but did see FBI reports about it.

“I didn’t see the list, but I saw the EU [electronic communication] that the FBI used him to take him to… to SENTINEL. [FBI database]”, Hill said.

He also said that the FBI’s Washington field office (WFO), which whistleblowers accused of outsourcing cases to local offices across the country to make them more widespread, was trying to pressure the Boston field office to investigate the Jan. 6 cases based on the Bank. America List.

The Special Supervisory Agent (SSA) from the Boston office stated at the time that “there was no suggestion, there is no crime that would be committed using the BoA product in or around the county” and said, you know, “No.” . further action is required,” Hill said.

“To which the WFO went back at the peer level, SSA to SSA, and said, ‘No, you need to open cases on these,’ to which he said, ‘No, we’re not going,'” Hill testified.

Hill noted during his testimony that the WFO continued to put pressure on the Boston office’s chain of command, but met with objections.

Hill added that he did not know if the WFO opened cases on its own based on information from Bank of America.

Democrats sought to highlight Hill’s “bias” regarding the chain of events surrounding the January 6 riots by sharing Hill’s numerous tweets in their report. Hill, for example, tweeted “The rebellion is my $$” and that the riot was “rigged”; however, Hill wrote all of the quoted Democratic tweets after he resigned from the FBI.

Hill stepped down from the bureau in October 2021, according to his legal counsel at Empower Oversight.

Empower Oversight reported that Hill “retired from the FBI on good terms, receiving an award for his leadership role on the Boston Marathon Bombing Task Force.” He left after 30 years in the federal public service, Empower Oversight reports.

Questions about Bank of America’s compliance with laws and policies, such as the Financial Privacy Rights Act and the general propriety of sending customer financial transactions to the FBI, remain open.

Bank of America did not respond to a request for comment on the matter.

The FBI told Breitbart News on Monday afternoon that it would respond to a request for comment as soon as possible, but had not provided comment as of press time.
