What’s on fire? HFD to conduct a prescribed burn at Sylvan Rodriguez Park in the Clear Lake area

HOUSTON – Residents of the Clear Lake area could see smoke on Monday and in the coming weeks around Sylvan Rodriguez Park, and HFD officials say not to worry.

Firefighters are required to put out an established fire at a park located at 1201 Clear Lake City Boulevard.

The prescribed fire began on Friday, February 13, and will continue until March 10, weather permitting.

Officials are urging residents living near the site of the fire to refrain from calling 911 unless it is an emergency.

Prescribed burn as defined US Forest Service“refers to the controlled use of fire by a team of fire experts in certain weather conditions to restore the health of ecosystems that depend on fire.”

It will also help reduce the potential fire hazard due to overgrown vegetation and reduce the threat of fires to nearby homes and businesses.
