Video: Cat stranded on Ohio Interstate rescued by state soldier, Good Samaritan

Two women recently joined forces to rescue a cat from an interstate in Ohio, a recently released video shows.

Footage released by the Ohio Highway Patrol on Tuesday shows a soldier named Cathy Thomas approaching a cat that has nestled against a concrete barrier on I-475 in Lucas County.

The cat then runs away and climbs onto the wheel of her patrol car. Thomas then cleans up the cat – with the help of another woman – and places the animal in the back seat of her car.

According to the department, the lucky cat was taken to the Toledo Humane Society and named “Paratrooper”.

“Talk about an amazing rescue!” the Society for the Protection of Animals said in a statement. “We are grateful to everyone in our community who is doing everything possible to help those who cannot help themselves!”

The organization said Soldier was “happy to be safe and live his best life” with his new family.

“Big thanks to these two brave women who saved him!” they continued.

On Sunday, a neighborhood group in Lansing, Michigan, successfully removed a Halloween bucket from a deer’s head, which media reports said had been stuck to the animal for weeks.

Local media, citing eyewitnesses, reported that a young deer roamed Lansing with a plastic gourd candy bucket on its head for two weeks.

A video filmed by Murphy’s Lost Animal Center in South Lyon on January 22 shows a net falling on a deer before volunteers carefully restrain the animal and release the bucket. The deer are then released into the wild.

“Lucky has been released from his pumpkin prison,” the rescue group wrote in a Facebook post, adding: “On Halloween, remind people to cut off their handles for jokes or treats. We can prevent this. Deer are sooooo curious, like all life. We are the guardians of nature and we can all do better.”
