US Army veteran from West Texas asks for 100 cards for his 100th birthday

Lieutenant Colonel Cecilia B. McKenzie turns 100 on January 27. She asked for cards to celebrate her birthday.

EL PASO, Texas. The El Paso community, as well as the rest of the Lone Star State, are being asked to show support for Vietnam and Korean War veteran U.S. Army Lt. Col. Cecilia B. McKenzie, who turns 100 on January 1st. 27.

Texas Lands General Commissioner Don Buckingham, MD, filed an appeal on Wednesday in favor of McKenzie, who lives at the Ambrosio Guillena Texas Veterans Home in El Paso. Mackenzie requested at least 100 greeting cards for this milestone.

Mackenzie served in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam War and entered active service in July 1956. While serving the nation, she worked as an obstetric nurse and was overseas in Okinawa, Japan; Paris, France; London, England; and Hawaii.

She received several awards for exceptional service, including the National Defense Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Meritorious Service Medal, and the Distinguished Service Medal.

In July 1973, McKenzie retired from her service as chief nurse in the pediatric department of the William Beaumont Military Medical Service in El Paso. She has two children, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
