Union Kitchen & Tap to Open Location at Former Bub’s Space in Pacific Beach, San Diego

OMG Hospitality Group, a San Diego-based restaurant collective founded in 2008 by CEO Eric Leitstein, has taken over the Pacific Beach space long occupied by Bub’s at the Beach for the opening of a new location of Union Kitchen & Tap. The Pacific Beach Fish Shop, Backyard Kitchen & Tap, and Pacific Beach Ale House are some of the renowned bars and restaurants operated by OMG in San Diego. During the pandemic, the company took over the Saska’s steakhouse location in Mission Beach and reopened it as Moe’s. They also rebranded neighboring Surf Rider Pizza to become Tulum-inspired healthy eats restaurant Molly’s, which unveiled last month. The new site on Garnet Avenue housed Bub’s at the Beach from 2008 until the restaurant permanently closed on April 30. OMG is believed to be planning to open a new Union Kitchen & Tap location in the central Pacific Beach area.

The space at 1030 Garnet Avenue was leased by OMG from Bub’s at the Beach owner Todd Brown, who retains ownership of the building but sold the restaurant and bar business to OMG. This will be the fifth concept OMG operates in San Diego’s Pacific Beach neighborhood. Although we reached out to OMG CEO Eric Leitstein for comment, there was no response to our request by the time of publishing.

Union Kitchen & Tap, a bar and restaurant concept offering a menu of modern American tavern fare as well as a full bar with craft cocktails, local beer, and a selection of wine, first opened in Encinitas in 2011, in North County City. A second location was opened at 333 5th Avenue in downtown San Diego’s historic Gaslamp District in 2014.

Union Kitchen & Tap Pacific Beach is projected to be opened by the end of the year. Additional information about OMG Hospitality and its operations can be found on omghospitalitygroup.com.
