Unauthorized Man Wanders SA Elementary School Under Student’s Invitation, Authorities Report

A homeless man entered a San Antonio elementary school on Wednesday afternoon, according to district officials. The incident occurred after a student let the man into the building. San Antonio and East Central ISD police received reports of a “suspicious man” hanging around Highland Forest Elementary School at around 1:30 p.m. It is said that the man jumped the fence, knocked on the back door, and was allowed inside by a passing student.

The man remained inside the school for an unknown period of time before being spotted by a campus police officer. When the officer attempted to confront the man, he fled the scene. However, with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety, authorities quickly located him at a nearby restaurant. Fortunately, the man was unarmed, and no injuries were reported. Officials believe that the man was attempting to cut through the school due to inclement weather.

The intruder will now face charges for trespassing and evading arrest. Parents were notified of the situation through a message, which informed them that the school was on a Hold Alert as part of their standard protocol. The statement also assured parents that campus police promptly took action and apprehended the man after a staff member noticed his presence near the campus. The Hold Alert was lifted around 2 p.m.

In light of this incident, district officials have emphasized their commitment to continuing safety training for both students and teachers. They aim to ensure that everyone in the school community is well-prepared to handle such situations in the future.
