Uber driver charged with sexual assault

TUCKERTON, NJ (OCEAN). Ocean County Attorney Bradley D. Billheimer announced that on March 5, 2023, Ronald Janiak, 56, of Little Egg Harbor, was charged with criminal sex in connection with the March 3 incident in Tuckerton. 4, 2023.

On March 4, 2023, the Tuckerton County Police Department received an 911 call from a woman who reported that an Uber driver had inappropriately touched her while she was using a sharing service. An investigation by the Ocean County Attorney’s Special Victims Unit and the Tuckerton County Police Department found that the victim and three fellow travelers called an Uber taxi from Barnegat to Tuckerton. During the ride, the Uber driver inappropriately touched the victim, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed that Janiak was the driver of the vehicle in question and that he had indeed touched the victim in an inappropriate manner. On March 5, 2023, Janiak was charged with criminal sexual contact by the Tuckerton Police Department, processed and released on subpoena pending a future Ocean County Superior Court appearance.

Attorney Billheimer commends the Ocean County Attorney’s Special Victims Unit and the Tuckerton County Police Department for their joint efforts in connection with this investigation.
