U-Haul driver in custody after violent brawl in Brooklyn, 4 injured

Four people were injured Monday, at least one seriously, in a rampage by a U-Haul driver in several Brooklyn neighborhoods, police said.

Authorities say the truck driver crashed into pedestrians, three of whom were on mopeds, during a chaotic ride through the Bay Ridge and Sunset Park neighborhoods. Most of the injuries were minor, but at least one of those hospitalized is reported to be in serious condition.

It was not immediately clear where the inflammatory incident took place, but police pursued the truck driver near Columbia Street and Hamilton Avenue.

By 11:30 a.m., police stopped the truck, which was surrounded on the corner between Red Hook and Carroll Gardens, and its driver was taken into custody.

Investigators are establishing motives for the attack on cars.

“At this time, we have no idea about the motives, but this was not an accident,” tweeted Council Member Justin Brennan, representing Red Hook.

This story is evolving.
