Two dogs from the Hitchcock shelter go to Southern California

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) — Two Doberman Pinschers head to southern California in hopes of finding a new home.

Animal Services transferred these dogs about 10 days ago to Hitchcock Road Animal Services about 10 days ago. 2 and 3 year old dogs could not receive adequate care at the shelter.

The Dobies and Little Paws rescue team at Ventura offered to take them. This rescue group specializes in Dobermans.

“Hitchcock Road Animal Services has over 100 rescue partners in California, and on top of that help, the shelter safely houses over 80% of the dogs that walk through their doors,” Monterey County said.

The only problem was getting them to Ventura, where pilot Mike Gennis intervened. Gennis regularly transports dogs as part of a rescue team called Pilots and Paws.

“Many people can fly small dogs, but not many people can fly big dogs,” Gennis said. I have experience with big dogs, so I kind of fell into the niche of flying with big dogs.”

Both dogs were taken on Thursday morning.
