Two arrested after ‘street occupancy’ in Port Saint Lucie

PORT ST. LUCY, Florida. A Palm Beach County man and a Broward County teenager were arrested Saturday night after Port St. Lucie police said they were involved in “street occupancy.”

Investigators said about 100 vehicles from South Florida arrived in Port St. Lucie for this dangerous meeting.

Police said the event is similar to the growing popularity around the country with drivers engaging in reckless and dangerous activities, including racing, burnout, drifting and donuts.

Police said they were working with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office to beef up their law enforcement presence over the weekend.

A 15-year-old Hollywood boy has been arrested after police said he lost control of a Chevrolet Camaro at a roundabout. He was charged with reckless driving, lack of a valid driver’s license, two counts of runaway and tax evasion, and two counts of marijuana possession.

A 23-year-old man from Palm Beach County was also charged with participating in and watching the race/taking the street.

Police said they want to remind the public that these “street takeovers” are not only dangerous, but also illegal.
