President Joe Biden has come under fire for not traveling to eastern Palestine after a hazardous materials train derailed there on February 3.

After the crash, officials carried out a “controlled release” of vinyl chloride, a carcinogenic chemical.

Since then, there have been reports of 3,500 dead fish in local waters. There have also been reports of chicken deaths. However, officials insist it is safe to return to the city.

On Monday, the mayor of East Palestine, Ohio, Trent Conaway appeared on Fox News and criticized Biden for visiting Ukraine and not his city.

Do you think Biden should visit the city?

“It was the biggest slap in the face. It means he doesn’t care about us right now,” Conaway said.

He continued: “So… he can send any agency he wants, but this morning I found out that he was in Ukraine giving away millions of dollars to people there, not to us, and I am furious.”

The mayor added:[On] President’s Day in our country, it … ended in Ukraine. So that tells you what kind of guy he is.”

“When I announced that I was coming, they changed the tone… We got them moving,” he added.

Federal officials were accused of slow response to the incident.

However, on Friday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said it would send a regional Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) to “support ongoing operations, including incident coordination and ongoing assessment of potential long-term recovery needs.”
