Truck Crash Forces Closure of NJ Turnpike North Bound Outer Lanes in Robbinsville

December 2, 2023 Update: The New Jersey Turnpike has now reopened, and there have been no reported traffic delays in the area as of 10:44 a.m. This comes after a significant incident earlier this morning, when an overturned tractor-trailer caused major disruptions to the outer lanes of the highway near mile post 64 in Robbinsville Township.

At approximately 7:16 a.m., emergency responders from the Robbinsville Township Fire Department, EMS, and the New Jersey State Police swiftly reacted to the scene. Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered that the outer roadway of the NJ Turnpike had been completely obstructed by the overturned vehicle. Fortunately, EMS confirmed that no severe injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Despite the absence of serious injuries, the situation remained challenging. Both firefighters and the NJ State Police remained on-site, awaiting the arrival of heavy-duty tow trucks and a crane that would facilitate the proper uprighting of the tractor-trailer. Consequently, commuters were advised to anticipate the closure of the outer lane of the New Jersey Turnpike, specifically north of Exit 7A in Robbinsville Township, throughout the morning. The removal of the truck from the roadway was a necessity to restore normalcy to the affected area.

During the time of this report, the roadway remained entirely impassable, causing a considerable backlog of vehicles on the outer roadway. The resulting three-mile delay had trapped numerous cars, trucks, and buses, leaving their occupants stranded until the situation could be resolved. The urgency to alleviate the congestion and alleviate the inconvenience experienced by commuters was palpable.

Efforts to clear the roadway and restore traffic flow were ongoing. As authorities continue to work diligently to rectify the situation, commuters are encouraged to seek alternative routes and remain patient. Updates regarding the progress of the recovery operation will be provided as soon as new information becomes available.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and swift response from our emergency services. Their timely and efficient actions in handling this unfortunate event have played a crucial role in preventing further harm and ensuring the safety of all involved. As the recovery operation progresses, it is hoped that normalcy will soon return to the affected portion of the New Jersey Turnpike.
