Trenton Shooting Leaves One Dead, Two Wounded

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are jointly investigating a shooting that took place on Sunday night. The incident occurred in the Donnelly Homes area on Willow Avenue, confirmed Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri. At approximately 8:10 PM, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force responded to reports of gunshots. Officers found one male victim, Shaquan Brown, 23, who had suffered a bullet wound at the back of his head. He was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for medical attention but was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after. Two other victims were also found with gunshot wounds to their legs.

As of now, no suspects have been arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing. The shooting in Trenton, NJ in 2023 make this an unprecedented year with this latest killing being the 13th reported homicide in Trenton. The city of Trenton has been plagued with a spate of shootings, making it one of the most dangerous cities in New Jersey.

It is pertinent to note that Trenton Police had a chase with a dirt bike that was observed leaving the crime scene towards Broad Street. The purported suspect dumped the dirt bike around the Haggerty Alley/400 Block of Genesee Street. Police pursued the suspect on foot and apprehended him in the area south of Broad Street. However, since there was no confirmation of any arrest following the initial investigation’s official information, it remains unclear if this was linked to the aforementioned shooting. Neighbors present in the area of South Broad Street witnessed the pursuit.

The identities of the reported homicide victims in Trenton in 2023 are available for the public to know. The unfortunate victims are Donnell Williams, 29, Trenton, who died of gunshot wounds, Stephanie Vil, 34, of Burlington, who also died of gunshot wounds, Khalil Glanton, 23, Trenton, who was one of the victims of a stabbing, Harold Rosario, 19, Trenton, who was killed by gunshot wounds, Nyeisha Saunders, 41, Trenton, who also suffered gunshot wounds, Jhosse Tolentino, 23, Trenton, another victim of shooting incident, Daniel Garvin, 46, Trenton, shot dead, Ralph Conquest, 43, of Lawrence, also killed by gunshots, Roger Martinez-Rodriguez, 27, Trenton, stabbed to death, Justin Reed, 24, of Ewing, shot and pronounced dead on May 22 and Sherief Treadwell, 36, also killed from gunshot wounds. Markell Biggs, 20, Trenton, was shot and killed on June 9th. The latest addition to the fatality count was Shaquan Brown, who was just 23 years old and had been shot in the head.

In conclusion, Trenton is faced with a dangerous and worrying trend of violence, and the authorities must act swiftly to keep residents safe.
