Trenton Police Department Releases Statistics on Successful Summer Initiative Task Force

In an effort to combat crime and ensure the safety of the community, the Trenton Police Department (TPD) partnered with various law enforcement agencies for the Summer Initiative Task Force. The joint operation, which ran from June to September, involved the TPD, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Law Enforcement Partners, the State Police, and Trenton’s Street Teams. The results of this collaborative effort include numerous arrests, the confiscation of drugs and weapons, and the issuance of multiple summonses.

Detectives and officers employed a range of strategies throughout the initiative. These included targeting individuals with active arrest warrants, conducting vehicle interdictions, increasing traffic enforcement, and utilizing covert surveillance through Packetalk cameras. Additionally, the Task Force focused on addressing complaints related to the open-air use and sale of illegal narcotics, violations of city ordinances, and weapons offenses.

Mayor Reed Gusciora expressed his pride in the success of the Summer Initiative Task Force, commending Director Wilson for his leadership. The collaborative efforts of the TPD, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the State Police, and the Street Teams have resulted in significant achievements. Thousands of doses of harmful drugs have been removed from the streets, over sixty firearms have been seized, and nearly 350 arrests have been made. Furthermore, more than $50,000 in cash has been confiscated, disrupting illicit trade and making the streets safer for residents.

A chart accompanying the announcement provides a detailed breakdown of the results achieved each month, as well as the cumulative totals for the summer. These statistics highlight the impact of the Task Force’s efforts, demonstrating the effectiveness of their strategies.

Apart from the arrests and the confiscation of drugs, weapons, and money, the Task Force also focused on clearing warrants, increasing patrols and traffic enforcement, and responding to complaints and notifications of ordinance violations and weapons offenses. The initiative led to a total of 333 cleared warrants, 1375 motor vehicle stops, 2270 motor vehicle summonses, 204 vehicles towed, and 498 ordinance violations.

Throughout the summer, the Task Force successfully seized 584 grams of crack-cocaine, 8254 decks of heroin, 61 firearms, and $53,309 in cash. These actions have removed these dangerous substances and items from the streets, disrupting the operations of drug and firearm traffickers. Additionally, a total of 342 arrests were conducted during the course of the initiative.

Director Wilson expressed his gratitude to every officer and detective who played a role in the success of the Summer Initiative. Despite a challenging start, the Task Force was able to curb violence and create a safer environment for all residents of the Capital City. The efforts to maintain safety will continue throughout the year.
