Travis Scott expected to meet with NYPD over alleged Manhattan club rampage

Travis Scott, the 30-year-old rapper and producer who recently split from Kylie Jenner, is expected to meet with NYPD along with his lawyer on Tuesday over last week’s Manhattan nightclub confrontation that involved hitting and thousands dollars in damages, law enforcement sources familiar with the case said.

The rapper, whose real name is Jacques Bermont Webster II, was wanted for questioning at the Nebula Club on 41st Street in the wee hours. The sound engineer told the police that he and Scott had an argument and Scott punched him in the face.

NYPD sources said the engineer had no visible injuries at the time the report was filed and had not complained of pain.

Following the alleged impact, Scott caused $12,000 worth of damage to the speaker and video screen before leaving the venue, sources said. The NYPD was expected to review video surveillance of the case.

Scott’s management later stated that the whole situation was “a simple misunderstanding that was resolved in a matter of minutes. Travis and our team are already working with law enforcement to resolve the situation and establish the truth.”

The owner of Club Nebula said in a statement that “this is completely disproportionate. It was a great night.”

The rapper showed up at Irving Plaza the night before during the Don Toliver show. After that, the owner of the Nebula club posted a video on Instagram in which he performs at the club.

It was unclear what time Scott and his lawyer planned to meet with the NYPD on Tuesday.

Also a singer-songwriter, Scott made world headlines in 2021 after 10 people died in a stampede at his Astroworld festival. After that, he launched the HEAL project to help those affected.

Approximately 400 lawsuits have been filed by members and families against Scott, Live Nation, and other parties associated with Astroworld. The lawsuits were later consolidated into one civil case involving nearly 2,800 victims, all of whom were accused of negligence. Despite the claims, both Scott and Live Nation vehemently deny any wrongdoing or guilt.

He started dating Jenner in April 2017. They have two children. Earlier this year, they announced that they had once again announced that they had terminated their contract.

Gil Freed, crowd management expert and professor at the University of West Florida, explains why everything went wrong with Astroworld.
