Transvestites and permission issues at the heart of the Neapolitan Pride discussion

NAPLES, Florida. On Wednesday, the fate of Naples Pride hung in the balance after some people gathered outside City Hall said supporters of the event were sexualizing children by allowing drag queens to attend the event.

On February 1, members of the Naples city council met to approve a list of public events, including Naples Pride.

Council members voted unanimously to delay this approval because they said the permit for the event was filled out incorrectly.

Council members said they needed more information about things like toilet access, safety plans, the overall size of the event, as well as its impact on the city.

Other council members raised concerns about allowing drag queens to perform at the event, and that conversation has moved into the present day.

“Today, I hope the city council will reconsider their last year decision,” said Priscilla Gray.

Others in attendance at Wednesday’s city council meeting, such as Tony Fisher, hoped for a different outcome.

“The event itself is a wonderful celebration of love and life,” Fischer said.

Council member Terry Hutchison said during a February 1 meeting that transvestites were sending the wrong message to children.

“This is exposing sexual acts to children, I don’t agree with that,” Hutchison said.

However, Tony Fisher, a supporter of the parade, disagreed with Hutchison’s statement.

“Drag and drop is fun, it’s a way for people to express their individuality, and that’s what it’s all about,” Fisher said.

On Wednesday, the Naples City Council heard public comments from both sides but settled on it, eventually saying they would next reconsider approving permission for the March 1st Naples Pride.
