Tragic House Fire in San Antonio Claims Lives of Five, Including Three Children
A tragic house fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning in San Antonio, resulting in the death of five individuals, including three children. The incident occurred on Winding Oak Drive, near Birch Tree Street, at around 3 a.m. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to the scene and upon arrival, they heard screams coming from inside the house. According to SAFD Fire Chief Charles Hood, two adults and three children lost their lives in the fire. One man was hospitalized and remains in critical condition. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and Chief Hood emphasized the importance of having sufficient smoke detectors in every bedroom and hallway, as well as an escape plan.
The affected home had multiple generations living together. While the grandfather survived the fire, he is currently in critical condition. Neighbors expressed their devastation upon learning of the tragic incident. Lisa Fry, a resident in the vicinity, was unaware of the fire until she woke up on Saturday morning. Fry expressed her hope that everyone had managed to escape unharmed, as the house did not appear to be completely destroyed.
Marla Hargrade, another resident on Winding Oak Drive, expressed her shock at the incident and sympathized with Fernando, the surviving family member. The fire department conducted a door-to-door visit in the neighborhood, offering free smoke alarms to raise awareness about fire safety.
