Tracey Shaw-Hutson jailed for stealing over a million dollars from Jason Kidd’s ex

On Tuesday, a serial con man was sentenced to more than four years in prison for swindling former NBA star Jason Kidd out of more than $1 million.

Fraudster Tracey Shaw-Hutson, 54, was sentenced to 51 months by Manhattan federal court judge Jesse Furman after pleading guilty to wire fraud in July 2022.

Hutson apologized to her target, broadcaster Jowmana Kidd, who watched from the courtroom gallery as the con man addressed the judge.

“I’m very sorry Miss Kidd for the breach of trust,” she said.

“I will pay her back,” she added. “I will continue to move forward honestly and with integrity.”

Hutson, who was previously convicted of federal fraud in California, said she would not be in trouble with the law after her release from prison.

In brief comments before sentencing, Furman said that Hutson was acting “mean” and that the facts of the case led him to believe she was a “serial con artist”.

“I want to believe you,” Fuhrman said of her promise to stay out of trouble, adding, “Your track record doesn’t give me much hope.”

Hutson, who advertised as the founder of a lifestyle brand, worked as Jumana Kidd’s personal assistant from 2015 to 2019 and had access to her personal information, which she used to cash out more than $1 million.

She used the ill-gotten gains to spend on luxury hotel stays, jewelry and nightclubs, according to federal prosecutors.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams celebrated the verdict on Tuesday.

“Shortly after serving a lengthy sentence on a previous federal indictment, Hutson’s Tracey Shaw betrayed her employer’s trust by misusing her employer’s financial information to fund her luxurious lifestyle for years,” Williams said in a statement.

“Her desire to lead a social life at the expense of her sacrifice has returned her to where she started, to another solid federal sentence,” he added.

In addition to the prison term, Hutson will have to pay $1,148,759 in restitution. She is to report to prison on April 13, Furman ordered.
