Top Super Bowl Sunday Searches: Californians Seek Chicken Wings and Dips, Google Data Shows

The highly anticipated Super Bowl, America’s second biggest day of eating, is fast approaching. As football fans gear up to watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, it is estimated that Americans will consume a staggering 1.4 billion chicken wings, according to the National Chicken Council. This means that each person will likely devour about four wings during the game.

When it comes to the preferred flavor of wings, Google has recently released data on the most-searched chicken wing varieties by state. In California, dry rubbed salt and pepper wings take the top spot in popularity. Other favored flavors include lemon pepper, salt and vinegar, and garlic parmesan. However, Google does not specify whether Americans prefer boneless or bone-in wings. The National Chicken Council, on the other hand, reports that the classic bone-in wings are the more popular choice, with 53% of people opting for them.

Aside from the main dish, the choice of sides to accompany the wings also varies across the nation. The majority of Americans, 86%, prefer to enjoy their wings with a side of French fries, while only 14% would rather have celery, according to the National Chicken Council. However, in the states of Montana and Colorado, residents have chosen a healthier alternative by searching for cauliflower wings. In Wisconsin and Illinois, the most popular search was for baked wings, as opposed to the traditional fried ones.

Another favorite appetizer during the Super Bowl is dips, and Google has compiled data on the most-searched dips by state as well. In California, the top choice is artichoke dip, which is also favored by residents of Vermont, Colorado, and Wyoming. Google has even provided a map showing the most-searched dip in each state, highlighting the diverse preferences across the country.

As Americans eagerly await the Super Bowl, the excitement surrounding the food choices is undeniable. From the variety of wing flavors to the preferred sides and dips, everyone is preparing for an indulgent culinary experience. Whether it’s the classic bone-in wings with a side of fries or the trendy cauliflower wings accompanied by artichoke dip, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while cheering on their favorite team.
