Three former Cameron High School athletes die after police chase ends in fiery crash

Three former Cameron High School student athletes died in a fiery crash on US 190 following a police chase Thursday.

The plane crash killed 19-year-old Fabian Bynaum, 20-year-old Davarius Bynaum and 21-year-old Malik Thomas.

Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore claims Fabian Bynaum was over 20 miles over the speed limit on US 190 between Cameron and Milan. He said that one of his deputies tried unsuccessfully to stop the car and a chase began.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Fabian Bynaum lost control of the vehicle while trying to overtake another vehicle. The car crashed into a tree, broke through a fence, rolled over and caught fire in a field.

“Texas law requires motorists to pull over to the right side of the roadway and stop when an ambulance approaches with headlights and sirens on. Trying to evade law enforcement in a car is not only a felony, it puts everyone on the road. in danger,” TxDPS said.

“I don’t know how to feel about this at the moment,” said Raquel Huerta.

She stopped at the crash site to pay her respects. Her daughters were friends and classmates with three young people.

“God’s help. What we can do is just leave it in the hands of God and help and pray for the families,” she said.

Friday night, Cameron High School and the community held a prayer vigil.

“It affected families, but it also affected our community. Each boy belonged to all of us. These are our children, our babies,” said one speaker.

“When I heard this news yesterday, my heart sank immediately as a parent,” said another speaker.

Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said in a statement that counselors will be available to students and staff at each of the district’s schools.
