Three earthquakes rocked West Texas Thursday morning.

The city of Snyder was located near the epicenter of the earthquakes that occurred on February 16.

SAN ANGELO, Texas. West Texas residents seem to have experienced more earthquakes this year than last. You never know how to prepare for something unexpected, like an earthquake, but when it does, it’s beyond words.

“It felt like the whole house was vibrating… shaking,” said Brownwood resident Wes Kearney. “I’ve never felt so strong before.”

Residents of Snyder and Brownwood felt a 4.7 magnitude quake, while residents of Big Spring and Abilene reported that their homes were also shaking.

“I noticed that we have more [earthquakes] than usual. We have felt at least two cases in the last six weeks,” Kearney said.

In the second half of February, several earthquakes occurred in this area.

Earthquakes are generally considered to occur most often between April and October. However, residents should be aware of the possibility that their homes could be shaken at any moment.

You can stay on top of earthquakes in your area by downloading apps like Earthquake, Alerts and Map from the Apple App Store, or using resources like ready.gov to create safety plans.
